The SABIEN group (Technological Innovation for Health and Well-Being) forms part of the Institute of Applied Information Technologies and Advanced Communication (ITACA), a centre of excellence for research and development of ICT, aiming to innovate and transfer its products and Research and Development services to the public sector, industry, commerce and the services sector. The ITACA institute, affiliated to Valencia Polytechnic University (UPV), is situated in the Polytechnic City of Innovation (CPI).
The experience garnered by SABIEN of applied ICT in the area of healthcare is the fruit of years of hard work and participation in various projects, both European (IV, V, VI, VII Marco Programme, H2020), national (MINECO, MINETUR, CDTI) and regional (IVACE, GVA); all high-profile projects with excellent results. As a result, the group has established agreements with a wide range of private and governmental organisations, pooling knowledge and applications and making SABIEN a gold standard in its principal line of business both at national and international level.
SABIEN: Our goals
Research and development of concepts, applications and services intended to improve health services and quality of life for those suffering from severe or chronic illness, and improvement of personal and social surroundings, through use of ICT. Research, design and evaluation of new paradigms for health professionals, public administrations and all public and private organisations using ICT for healthcare and social support of people with special needs. Research of new methodology and development of solutions focused on boosting public awareness and use of ICT to promote and maintain healthy lifestyles, prevent health risks, manage illness, and protect and improve quality of life.
ITACA-SABIEN has ample experience in applying ICTs to social and health areas, in Ambient Intelligence and AAL Technologies (Ambient Assisted Living) as well as in reengineering, evaluation and validation of social and health processes, and in solutions in real surroundings, including vast experience in the use of mobile technologies for health and social purposes. The group has also participated in the development of various websites, including social webs and others related to health, especially where the domain of health 2.0 is concerned.
As a result of this experience, practical work and research in the area of healthcare, the Joint Unit of Research in ICT applied to Reengineering of SocioSanitary Processes ( eRPSS ) has been created, where members of the ITACA-SABIEN group and La Fe Polytechnic University Hospital in Valencia collaborate on joint projects.
