BREATHE

BREATHE is a technological platform which works as a daily guide and supports informal carers.

Currently there are a series of problems which informal carers have to face; the most important being lack of experience and lack of training, limited social support, lack of specific tools which adapt to real needs and make the care routine run more smoothly, problems combining personal life with professional responsibilities, stress, social isolation and depression. All these problems are well documented and common among the informal carer community; approximately 80% of long-term care given to the elderly in Europe is provided by informal carers. The main aim of BREATHE is to develop a technological platform which satisfies the needs of informal carers and improves both their quality of life and the help given to those under their care.

The duration of the project has been set at 30 months with a global budget of 2 million euros and a contribution of 1.1 million by the Board.

Funding: the BREATHE project has been co-financed jointly by the AAL programme (Meeting 5, 2012) and various R+D+i companies in Spain, the UK, Ireland and Italy.
